Lectures/Trips

7 June 2013: Stained Glass Museum Study Day and Picnic.  Departying from Ely at 9am, the visit will include four churches along the Norfolk and Suffolk border, all of which have splendid stained glass windows, and return to Ely and approximately 6pm.  For more details see Vidimus 69.

 5-6 June 2013:  Society of Glass Technology Training Day and Furnace Solutions.  Visit the website for more information and registration.  

1-4 July 2013: International Medieval Congress, Leeds.  This year’s International Medieval Congress in Leeds includes a number of sessions relating to medieval stained glass.  For more information, visit the website.

20-24 July 2013: 2013 British Archaeological Association Conference.  For further information click here.

29 August – 1 September 2013: BSMGP Autumn Conference.  The conference will focus on  Worcester and Gloucester.  It will be held at the University of Worcester campus.  Speakers will include Peter Cormack, Geoffrey Lane, Steve Clare, Tom Denny and  Tim Bridges (of the Victorian Society).  See Vidimus 68 for more details, and for booking and further information visit the BSMGP website.

11-13 September 2013: Society of Glass Technology Conference.  The annual conference of the Society of Glass Technology will be held at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge.  The conference will include sessions on the art and history of stained glass. A call for papers has been issued and final details of the conference programme will be published later this year.

Current Exhibitions

Until 1 July 2013: Norfolk Stained Glass Exhibition.  St Nicholas’s Chapel, King’s Lynn, Norfolk.  Admission to the exhibition is free. Opening hours are 10.30am – 4.30pm, Tuesdays and Saturdays.  For further information see Vidimus 66 and visit the website.

Until 4 August 2013: Roundels exhibition in Linnich.  An exhibition of 88 Flemish roundels, 10 Swiss panels, and 38 small Baroque panels belonging to the well-known collector Dr Klaus Tiedemann will open on 16th March at the Stained Glass Museum in Linnich, Germany.  For more details see Vidimus News.

Rolling Exhibition: New displays at ‘Four Ancestors of Christ’, rolling exhibition, Canterbury Cathedral.  See the News page of Vidimus 48 for more  information.  The figures currently on show are Phalec, Ragau, Jonan and Joseph. From mid- January 2012 these will be replaced by Thara & Abraham, Jose & Er. From May 2012 the exhibition will feature Joanna & Juda, Salman & Booz.

Forthcoming Exhibitions and Events

1 June, 2 June and 22 June: The Stained Glass centre is holding a series of stained glass workshops.  1 June – Glass Painting, 2 and 22 June – Leading and Glazing.  For more information see Vidimus 69.

Tours of York Churches: The Stained Glass centre is running tours of York Churches over the summer.  23 May: St Martin-cum-Gregory, Micklegate; 20 June: All Saints, North Street; 25 July: St Martin’s, Coney Street, York Guildhall and St Helen’s, Stonegate; 22 August: Holy Trinity, Goodramgate and All Saints, Pavement.  For more details see Vidimus 69.

20 September 2013 – 2 February 2014: ‘Canterbury and St Albans: Treasures from Church and Cloister’ at the Getty Museum, Los Angeles.  See Vidimus 68 for more details.

29 April – 26 July 2013: ‘Francis Spear’ at the Stained Glass Museum, Ely.  A retrospective exhibition of stained glass designs and panels by the eminent twentieth-century glass artist Francis Spear (1902-1979).  For more details see the Stained Glass Museum Website.
